A very hot topic in the UK, online safety regulations are a high priority for the UK government, and other countries will be looking closely at the way these rules are designed in the UK as well as the way they are enforced by Ofcom. A committee of MPs and Peers recently recommended radical changes to the draft legislation in this area, including to ensure online paid advertising comes within the scope of the new Online Safety Bill. This will continue to be a very high-profile and sensitive topic throughout 2022 and beyond, with broad implications for many brands and agencies, as well as social media platforms and search engines.
