Ambush Marketing - Tokyo & Beyond
With the approaching Tokyo Olympics, join members of the Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance to discuss the issues marketers should be aware of when advertising at sporting events through the concept of 'ambush marketing'.
Following a brief recap on what ambush marketing is by revisiting some of the most creative and flagrant examples, we'll explore how different jurisdictions have dealt with ambush marketing in the past, what legislative approaches are taken, and what we can expect in Tokyo this summer.
The panel will also explore the controversial "Rule 40" of the Olympic Charter and revisions thereto (which limits athletes' ability to appear in ads during the Games), and consider what the impact of COVID may be for ambush marketers, and sponsors who will have to shift their marketing activities.
Whether you're a sponsor of the Games, or a brand considering what you can do around the Olympics and Paralympics or even a future sporting event (or a lawyer advising either), you'll be sure to pick up some top tips!
