Hugo Mersan is a Senior Partner at MERSAN, Abogados and head of the IP Department; he is an Attorney and Doctor in Law by the National University of Asuncion, as well as an Intellectual Property Agent. He is also member of several Bar Associations, including the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), the International Trademark Association (INTA), International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property, the Inter-American Bar Association and President of the Paraguayan Association of Intellectual Property Agents(APAPI).

With an ample experience in legal matters in Paraguay, his areas of practice include trademarks, copyright, patents, industrial models and designs, plant breeders’ rights; administrative and civil litigation; criminal procedures regarding protection of intellectual property rights and legal Counseling in the fields of advertisement, publicity, marketing and trademarks.

Hugo is ranked as a “Leading Lawyer” in Intellectual Property on The Legal 500 Latin America 2017 and in "Band 1" for Chambers Latin America 2018.

He is professor of Intellectual Law at the National University of Asunción School of Law. 

He speaks Spanish, English and Portuguese.
