Kelly Thompson is the Chairperson of the Trade Mark Litigation Department at Adams & Adams. She has a BA (1996) and LLB (1998) from the University of Stellenbosch. She was admitted as an attorney and qualified as a trade mark practitioner in 2001.
Kelly advises numerous local businesses as well as some of the world’s top multi-national organisations on the protection of their brands and other intellectual property in Africa.
Kelly’s specializations include trade mark and passing-off litigation, copyright litigation, , domain name litigation, trade mark litigation in Africa, advertising clearance and disputes, and company name objections.
Kelly has also published numerous articles on developments in South African intellectual property law online and in well-known publications.
Kelly is a member of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces, and of the Business Women’s Association (BWA). She is also a fellow and member of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL)and is the Convenor of its Copyright Law Committee.; she is also a SAIIPL Domain Name Dispute Adjudicator.
