Alejandro Alterwain leads FERRERE’s Antitrust team and is a member of the Intellectual Property group, with particular experience in trademark and copyright litigation. His professional practice also includes mining law.

His performance and experience in intellectual property have gained him various academic and professional recognitions, leading Chambers to note that he "is very studious and goes into real depth," and adding that he is the go-to person in complex cases. He is an industrial property agent and has over fifteen years’ experience in registration and legal issues involving intellectual property, both in civil matters and in relation to anti-piracy actions. In 2009, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) retained him as an expert consultant on a complex cultural industries project (involving music and books).

In antitrust he has participated in numerous claims and investigations and in reports of economic concentration. He regularly participates as an instructor in corporate training about antitrust activities and is consulted by local and multinational companies to define their product distribution strategies in Uruguay. He has also successfully represented diverse clients in judicial and administrative actions against market regulations with anti-competitive aspects.

Alterwain is also involved in mining law issues and has represented major mining projects in Uruguay. His daily practice also includes general company consulting, particularly in the technology, telecommunications and entertainment industries.

He is a professor of Intellectual Property and Negotiation of Complex Contracts at Universidad ORT, a guest lecturer on Antitrust, and the author of numerous national and international publications on these subjects.

He is an attorney from Universidad de la República and has an LL.M of Columbia University School of Law (2006).
